Amy's musical journey began at the age of 16 when she left home to study the double bass at the RNCM in Manchester. After a year it became clear that although the musical abillity was there the course was too difficult at such a young age, and she moved back to Scotland and found a place to live in Glasgow.
Finding herself without her double bass (it had been left in a friend's flat in Manchester being too big to fit in the car) and needing a creative outlet she picked up a guitar that was lying in a corner in the flat she was staying in. The next year was spent singing and playing the guitar, and her original songs started to emerge.
She went to the RSAMD in Glasgow and finished her degree by the age of 20, by which stage she had become very proficient at the double bass. But rather than go down the classical route Amy began playing in the band Swelling Meg, and became a major part of their sound with her experimental bass playing. She then went on to play bass with the likes of Carol Laula, Holly Tomas, and Lee patterson, and worked as a session musician with Mark Freegard in his studio in Glasgow.
Alongside the bass work Amy's songwriting was growing and, now with a son, and limited time, it became clear to her that songwriting should take precedence over bass playing. Since then Amy has been steadily creating a reputation with her intimate songs and spellbinding performances.
Her guitar and piano based songs were picked up on myspace by US record company Plain Recordings (Cat Power's first label) who licensed her album 'Pilgrimage' in 2006. She then released her 2nd album 'Story Of A Girl' in 2007.
Amy was one of the winners of Burnsong 2007 taking part in the week long residential songwriting workshop, and the final performance at BBC Pacific Quay, and has played support for James Grant and Carol Laula.
